Petzl ZIGZAG PLUS mechanical Prusik in use during canopy climbing

Petzl ZIGZAG PLUS: Smooth, Precise Movement in the Canopy

For professional arborists, an effective climbing system needs to provide smooth movement, dependable control and efficient positioning throughout the canopy.

The Petzl ZIGZAG PLUS Mechanical Prusik is designed to deliver the familiar feel of a classic Prusik pulley system while adding the efficiency and precision of a purpose-built mechanical device.

With its friction chain, sealed ball-bearing pulley and integrated high-efficiency swivel, the ZIGZAG PLUS is built to support controlled movement, easy slack management and stable positioning during professional tree care work.

Familiar Prusik Technique

One of the key benefits of the ZIGZAG PLUS is its intuitive operation.

The device uses a technique similar to a traditional Prusik pulley system, making it familiar to experienced arborists. When the friction chain extends, the device automatically locks onto the rope.

Movement is controlled through the release lever. The amount of pressure applied to the lever determines how quickly the rope feeds through the device, giving the climber precise control during positioning and descent.

Smooth Rope Feed and Slack Management

Taking up slack efficiently can make a significant difference when moving between work positions.

The ZIGZAG PLUS features a pulley mounted on sealed ball bearings, helping the rope move smoothly through the device. Its separated and curved side plates further support efficient rope travel while improving resistance to wear.

Together, these features allow the climber to manage slack easily and move more efficiently throughout the canopy.

High-Efficiency Swivel

The integrated lower swivel is one of the main differences between the ZIGZAG PLUS and the standard ZIGZAG.

The swivel helps keep the mechanical Prusik stable and correctly positioned in relation to the climber. It also reduces twisting within the climbing system and supports smooth rope travel through the device.

For arborists who regularly reposition themselves during canopy work, this improved alignment can help create a cleaner and more efficient climbing setup.

Moving Rope and Stationary Rope Systems

The ZIGZAG PLUS can be used as part of a moving rope system with compatible ropes measuring between 11.5 and 13 mm in diameter.

It can also be incorporated into a stationary rope system when combined with the compatible Petzl CHICANE auxiliary brake. The CHICANE provides the additional friction required when descending on a stationary rope.

Compatible Petzl KNEE ASCENT assemblies can also be added to support more efficient stationary-rope ascents.

Built for Professional Tree Care

The ZIGZAG PLUS combines aluminium, steel and nylon components, with steel construction used in key areas to improve durability.

Additional attachment points allow the climber to connect the rope termination, add a Petzl ZILLON lanyard or integrate a second system where required.

The device is compatible with EN 1891 Type A low-stretch kernmantel ropes and has a maximum working load of 140 kg.
