Petzl CHICANE Auxiliary Brake
The Petzl CHICANE is an auxiliary braking device designed to allow Petzl ZIGZAG and ZIGZAG PLUS mechanical Prusiks to be used on a single-rope system.
It provides continuous additional friction during descent, while maintaining smooth rope travel during ascent. When combined with a compatible connector and ZIGZAG mechanical Prusik, the CHICANE forms a compact and efficient climbing system for professional tree care.
An ergonomic handle provides a secure grip and assists movement while limb walking, while the openable side plate allows the device to be installed quickly and easily on the rope.

Single-Rope Compatibility
The CHICANE provides the additional friction required to use a Petzl ZIGZAG or ZIGZAG PLUS mechanical Prusik on a single-rope system.
The two integrated friction pins create continuous braking during descent, while the overall system remains smooth and efficient when ascending.
The CHICANE must be connected to the upper attachment point of the mechanical Prusik using a compatible Petzl Am’D or OK connector. The connector is not included.

The CHICANE and ZIGZAG are designed to operate together as an integrated system.
The H-shaped profile of a compatible connector, combined with the positioning ring on the ZIGZAG or ZIGZAG PLUS, helps maintain correct alignment and supports smooth rope travel through the brake during ascent.
The ergonomic handle also provides a comfortable grip when moving laterally through the canopy or limb walking.
Quick Installation
An openable side plate allows the CHICANE to be installed directly onto the rope without dismantling the climbing system.
The triple-action unlocking mechanism helps limit the risk of the side plate opening accidentally during use.

The CHICANE is constructed from aluminium, steel and nylon for a balance of strength, durability and manageable weight.
Its two friction pins are available as replacement parts, helping extend the working life of the device in demanding professional environments.
