Stakes
SHAPESCAPER® stakes are Manufactured in Australia with BlueScope® Steel
Steel edging stakes are supplied in either Redcor, Zam or Galvabond and should be matched to the edging being installed.
All SHAPESCAPER® stakes and connectors feature precision pre-drilled holes that align with corresponding holes pre-drilled along the full length of all SHAPESCAPER® edging.
A choice of holes along each length allow for either the recommended x3 stakes per length or x4 stakes per length for specific applications, such as long straight runs of edging, or when installing in light soils or heavy traffic areas.
Stakes are installed by matching up the corresponding holes in the edging and stake, and then secured by screwing in from the front. Alternate installation involves positioning the supplied self-tapping screws into either of the pre-drilled holes when not aligned. They can then be screwed together either from the back stake hole into the edging or from the edging hole into the stake. This will involve applying a little more pressure and a lower speed than usual while the self-tapping screw penetrates the second layer of steel.
It is important to check that all screwed fittings are placed well under the soil level and will not cause an injury while weeding etc. All fastening above soil level should be fitted off using the supplied rivets.
The lower profile stakes 230mm, 300mm and 400mm can be hammered into place using a rubber mallet. For even better results use a “dead blow” hammer. Care should be taken not to damage the top of the stake which may prevent the stake fitting correctly under the edging lip. If a mash hammer is used a block of wood or similar should be used to protect the top of the stake.
Higher profile stakes can be driven into soft ground in a similar way to the lower profile stakes. In firm ground our stake driving tool can be used. In rocky or hard ground and especially with the longer 780mm and 1180mm stakes a 100mm-150mm diameter hole should be augured then back filled with cement.
A stake driving tool is available when installing 580mm, 780mm and 1180mm stakes. Please call sales for further details.
All edging installations require three or four stakes per edging length. Four stakes per length are preferred when installing steps and long straight runs especially in sandy or unsettled soils. Three stakes per length are sufficient in clay soils and edging featuring curved runs.
